Should I get a cat?

For the past few weeks, I've been toying with the idea that maybe I should get a cat. I've toyed with this idea before, but this is the first time that I've thought about it for more than ten minutes in a row, so I started to wonder if I might be serious. I weighed the pros and cons, and discussed the idea with friends.

The main objection, which hasn't yet outweighed the benefits, is this:

If you have a cat in the house, you have a box of cat feces in the house.

I have no idea why this is the point that's the dealbreaker, other than that I don't like cleaning my own bathroom, so I'd probably like cleaning the cat's even less. Every other objection (vet bills, lodging when I travel, being clawed and bitten) has melted away except this one, and this one seems somehow insurmountable.

I keep thinking about it, though.

Wondering.

Imagining.

Tossing the idea around in my mind.

Should I get a cat?

Catwoman (1)

Catwoman! You know a lot about cats.

I should get one, then?

Catman (1)

Catman? You don't think I should get a cat? But I thought cats were kind of, you know, your thing?

Catman (3)

Oh.

Hey, why are your figure's eyes blue when your eyes are green in the comic?

Catman (2)

You've clearly never read this blog before.

Back to the matter at hand, what's wrong with a nice, quiet housecat?

Catwoman (2)

Yeah. You adopt one, just like you would a child.

Catman (4)

That... doesn't sound so much like a family.

Catwoman (3)

Yes! Like a family member.

Catman (5)

Also like a family member?

Seriously, though, as long as I provide food to the cat, the cat loves me, right?

Catman (6)

Uh...

Catwoman (4)

Catman and Catwoman

Wait, what?

Catman (7)

OK.

I really think you should get the cat.

Great. Now I'm imagining Batman and Catwoman doin' it like they do on the Discovery Channel.

Other than my terrible allergies, a box of cat feces in my home is the #1 reason I will not get a cat. But [some] cats are cute.

not to be crass, but whiny Bruce Wayne, and dominatrix Selena Kyle? This is a reverse cowgirl sort of relationship.

Cats rule. We have two. Cats, not rules. We have loads more rules. Which kinda sucks, come to think of it.

Cats are far less hassle than dogs, and if you have a garden you don't even need the box of poo in the house, they'll go outside.... until they get old and senile of course... Btw I came over from Marcheline's blog - had to see what she was laughing about!

Cats are lovely as long as you're not too fussy about your furniture. They don't poo that much and the litter stuff is unsmelly once the poo is removed using a plastic bag or whatever. And cats are furry - major selling point. It's difficult going on holiday, though - the only real snag, I think.
